What is a spinal cord injury?

An injury to the spinal cord is usually caused by strong external force against the neck or back. The damage means that the nerve connections between the brain and the body have been completely or partially destroyed. Read more.
 

Autonomic Dysreflexia

Autonomic dysreflexia (AD) is a condition that can occur with spinal cord injury at or above Th6. The condition can be compared to spasticity, but instead of uncontrolled overactivity in the nerves to skeletal muscles, the sympathetic nervous system is affected. Read more.

Breathing

Being able to breathe is a vital function that is affected to varying degrees in the event of a spinal cord injury. The risk of problems due to reduced respiratory function increases the higher up the spinal cord is damaged. Read more.

Pregnancy

There are no obstacles for a woman with a spinal cord injury to become pregnant. The studies that have been done show that the conditions for a woman with a spinal cord injury to give birth to a healthy child are just as good as for a woman without a spinal cord injury. Read more.
